Discovering your imagination

Strategos: Mythoi

Enter the chaotic world of ancient Greek mythology, and command your army in a battle to be proclaimed the greatest commander of the ancient world. In Mythoi: Strategos, players compete to build up their armies, creating synergistic and powerful forces to overwhelm or outwit their opponents on the battlefield. Defeat your opponents with cunning strategy or crush them with brute force; all's fair in love and war. Do you have what it takes to be an ancient Greek Strategos?

Game Outline

Players take turns to buy, draw and arrange cards, creating their “army”. The cards have connection and connection colours that provide different effects when matched together. This is a core design element that I think gives the game a lot of character through the clear visual design and interesting & colourful formations that this encourages.

After a certain amount of card draws, a battle commences and the players pitch their armies against each other in a CCG-style match. This gives the players an opportunity to show off their strategies and clever plans that they have been building up all game. After a predetermined amount of battles the game ends and the player with the most battle wins is victorious.

Inspirations

I am studying a degree in Classics and Greek Mythology has always been a special interest of mine, and so I wanted to encompass its vast repertoire of interesting and unique characters in my game. Many board games have inspired me, such as Disastles and Fight for Olympus.

New Design

I have recently created a new card design using Figma and the design principles I have learnt over the past 6 months. It has been a great chance to practise designing and I also created a basic application to generate all of the cards automatically from raw data and create printouts for sample copies.

Future Plans

Ultimately, I would like to take this game to Kickstarter and, with backing, to produce and publish it commercially. Before then, I would like to print some sample copies for beta testing and to iron out any kinks in the balance or design. I would also like to create a robust online demo where potential backers can try out a fully functional version of the game.
